South Korean exports rose 62.8% year-on-year to $98.89 billion in July, beating the 59.0% forecast, driven by surging demand for semiconductors and computers used in artificial intelligence. Semiconductor exports jumped 179% as memory-chip prices continued to rise, while computer exports climbed 404% on increased AI investment from large U.S. technology companies. The expansion slowed from June's 70.7% surge but still marked the second-fastest growth rate since the export expansion began in June 2025. Exports to China rose 96% and shipments to the U.S. increased 69%, while imports rose 26.5% to $68.56 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of $30.32 billion, down from a record $36.09 billion in June.
