South Korean equities are surging in 2026, driven by a weaker U.S. dollar, a shift toward international investments, and soaring demand for AI-related semiconductors, with some exchange-traded funds more than doubling year-to-date. The iShares MSCI South Korea ETF, the largest South Korea-focused fund with over $26 billion in assets under management, has gained about 125% year-to-date, though it carries a 0.59% expense ratio and concentrates roughly half its portfolio in Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. A lower-cost alternative, the Franklin FTSE South Korea ETF, charges just 0.09% and offers broader exposure with about twice as many holdings and a 1.93% dividend yield, but its $1.4 billion in assets and lower trading volume are a fraction of the iShares fund's. For risk-tolerant investors, the Direxion Daily MSCI South Korea Bull 3x Shares aims to triple the daily returns of the same index, though its 1.32% expense ratio and leveraged structure make it suitable only for short-term trading.
