South Korea expects a record tax windfall from the AI-driven semiconductor boom, with the government boosting its 2027 tax revenue estimate to 500 trillion won, far above an earlier forecast of 412.1 trillion won. Budget Minister Park Hong Keun said the surge will allow a budget proposal of more than 800 trillion won, the largest in the country's history, compared with this year's 727.9 trillion won. A key part of the plan is a Future Response Fund that will channel excess tax receipts into strategic investments focused on younger generations, future growth engines, regional development, and talent cultivation. The fund will also help finance President Lee Jae Myung's signature economic agenda, including three mega projects in semiconductors, AI data centers, and physical AI, with policy support for at least $880 billion of corporate investment led by companies including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.
