South Korean retail investors have expressed strong anger at the government following the sharp drop in the Korea Composite Stock Price Index in July, with some declaring they will pull out of the market. The KOSPI fell 22 percent during the month, its biggest decline since the global financial crisis. Retail investors poured in roughly 78 trillion won in May and June, but were hammered by wild swings. In July, circuit breakers were triggered a record four times, and criticism has focused on leveraged single-stock ETFs introduced in May for amplifying volatility. The government took steps such as temporarily halting new listings, but many see the response as too little, too late.
