Micron Technology IncCXMT's massive IPO and market share gains intensify competitive pressure on Micron's core DRAM business.
The Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bear 3X Shares surged roughly 11% as memory chip stocks led a broad semiconductor pullback. Micron Technology fell about 8% and SK Hynix dropped 11% after Chinese DRAM maker CXMT announced an $8.55 billion IPO on Shanghai's STAR Market, nearly doubling its initial fundraising target and implying a market capitalization over $80 billion. CXMT, the world's fourth-largest DRAM manufacturer, roughly tripled its market share year over year to about 8% in the first quarter, according to Counterpoint Research, intensifying competitive pressure on the three dominant suppliers. US sanctions block CXMT from producing high-bandwidth memory or supplying US customers, leaving Micron's highest-margin AI memory business untouched for now. SOXS is designed to deliver three times the daily inverse of the semiconductor index, but it has lost 97% over the past year and 99.7% over five years due to compounding losses when chips rally.
