SpaceX spent $7.7 billion on AI infrastructure in the first quarter of 2026, accounting for 76% of its total $10.1 billion capital budget. The AI segment, essentially the acquired xAI startup, lost about $2.5 billion in the quarter, contributing to an overall operating loss of roughly $1.9 billion on $4.7 billion in revenue. The company's space and Starlink segments spent $1.1 billion and $1.3 billion respectively, far less than the AI outlay. Despite raising $85.7 billion in its IPO and pricing $25 billion in senior notes, the rapid AI spending pace raises concerns about cash burn and potential future stock sales. The stock, which debuted in June and briefly touched $225, has fallen back to around $142, near its initial trading price.
