Space Exploration Technologies Corp. Class A Common StockCEO grant tied to Mars colony milestones; stock fell 7.13% since debut

SpaceX’s board granted CEO Elon Musk 1 billion restricted shares worth about $165 billion, but the award vests only when a permanent human colony of at least 1 million inhabitants exists on Mars, alongside 15 escalating market-cap milestones up to $7.5 trillion. Musk must still be running SpaceX when the board certifies each milestone or he gets nothing. Prediction market traders on Kalshi give SpaceX less than a 20% chance of sending humans to Mars by 2030, far short of the colony required. SPCX, which listed on June 12, 2026, has fallen 7.13% since debut and closed at $149.47 on July 7, 2026. The filing reframes Musk’s xAI and X, merged into SpaceX three months earlier, as Mars infrastructure for autonomous robots and AI. Musk’s 2018 Tesla options recently generated $116 billion in gains, the largest equity event in history, while Tesla shareholders also approved a separate $1 trillion pay package in November 2025.
