Space Exploration Technologies Corp. Class A Common StockFirst earnings report expected to show operating loss and high liabilities, with market cap down over $500B.

SpaceX, the space technology company founded by Elon Musk, is set to announce its first earnings report since going public, scheduled for release after the US market close on Tuesday. The company's market capitalization has fallen by more than 500 billion dollars since trading began in mid-June. Its current market cap stands at 1.4 trillion dollars, with the share price declining for a fourth consecutive week. The trailing price-to-sales ratio is over 70 times, while the company has an operating loss and liabilities nearly double its cash holdings. Another factor weighing on the stock is the upcoming expiration of the lock-up period in the coming days, which will allow early investors to sell shares for the first time. Under SpaceX's staggered lock-up release terms, existing shareholders will be able to sell up to 20 percent of their eligible locked-up shares, equivalent to a maximum of approximately 911.5 million shares, starting from August 6. Meanwhile, short sellers have accumulated paper profits of around 8.3 billion dollars since the stock began trading. On the positive side, the company's Starship rocket, if successful, could significantly reduce the cost of sending cargo and humans into space and support the expansion of the Starlink network, which is currently SpaceX's only profitable business.
