SpaceX shares may not have bottomed yet, as history shows 19 of 31 major IPOs over the past 15 years suffered maximum drawdowns exceeding 50% in their first year of trading, according to Truist chief markets strategist Keith Lerner. SpaceX stock fell 10% on Wednesday to around $116, far below its record high of about $225, after the company reported second-quarter capital expenditures of $18.4 billion, well above analyst estimates of roughly $6 billion, with executives indicating full-year capex could reach about $65 billion versus Wall Street's $50 billion forecast. The aggressive spending overshadowed better-than-expected second-quarter results, including revenue of $7.8 billion and EBITDA of $3.5 billion, driven by AI segment cloud services agreements worth approximately $14 billion. B. Riley chief markets strategist Art Hogan noted the stock trades at 77 times sales and called it a money burner, adding that Starlink subscriber growth was not enough to move the needle and the only real revenue source right now is leasing out excess compute.
