Stonex Group IncFinancial stocks including Morningstar, Moody's, Goldman Sachs, Lazard, and StoneX traded up in the afternoon session after Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller signaled support for holding interest rates steady amid emerging signs of disinflation. During a Reuters NEXT Newsmaker interview, Waller said that if positive economic trends continue in data due over the next two weeks, he would be inclined to support holding the federal funds target rate at its current setting. He noted that the three-month annualized inflation rate as measured by the Personal Consumption Expenditures price index has dropped from 4.76% in February to 3.05% currently. However, Waller cautioned that considerable uncertainty remains regarding global conflicts, trade policy, and artificial intelligence, and that a rate hike may still be appropriate if August data shows the disinflationary progress has been fleeting. Following his comments, market-implied odds for a September rate hike dropped to 48.4%, down 15 percentage points from the prior day, according to the CME Group's FedWatch gauge. Among the stocks, Morningstar and Moody's each jumped 2.9%, Goldman Sachs rose 3.1%, and Lazard and StoneX each gained 3.3%.
