Taco Bell has temporarily withdrawn several fresh produce ingredients from its menu as U.S. health officials investigate a growing Cyclospora outbreak that has sickened nearly 2,000 people nationwide. Signs posted at some restaurants, including outlets in the Detroit metropolitan area, said lettuce, cilantro-onion mix, pico de gallo and guacamole were unavailable because of a nationwide recall. The removed ingredients are used in a range of menu offerings, including tacos, the Crunchwrap Supreme and Cantina Chicken products. Michigan has reported 992 cases associated with the outbreak, compared with around 50 cases the state records in a typical year, while New York City has confirmed 273 cases since May 1 and 301 cases in 2026 to date. Health officials are also examining outbreaks in Ohio, North Carolina, Illinois, Colorado, Texas, Florida and Connecticut, although the source of the infections has not been identified.
