Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd.TSMC's July sales up 45% and raised revenue forecast due to strong AI chip demand.

Taiwan's statistics agency has raised its 2026 GDP growth estimate to 11.05%, up from a previous forecast of 9.64% and an acceleration from 8.76% expansion in 2025, driven by persistently surging global demand for AI chips and servers. If the forecast holds, it would be Taiwan's first double-digit expansion in 16 years and would make Taiwan likely one of the standout major economies this year amid accelerating AI infrastructure investment in both the United States and China. TSMC, Taiwan's largest chipmaker, reported July sales up 45% and has raised its revenue forecast and capital spending plans for this year, reflecting confidence that AI-related chip demand will remain strong through 2027 and beyond. However, the hotter economy is increasing pressure on Taiwan's central bank, with inflation still running above the 2% watch level. Hyosung Kwon, South Korea and Taiwan economist at Bloomberg Economics, expects Taiwan's central bank may raise interest rates by 0.125%, or 12.5 basis points, at its quarterly policy meeting in September.
