Thai Tiew Thai Plus to go before Cabinet on Sept 22 with 4 billion baht budget, expected to spur 20 billion baht in economic activity

Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul said the Thai Tiew Thai Plus scheme is expected to go before the Cabinet meeting on Sept 22, using a budget of 4 billion baht from loans, and is expected to generate more than 20 billion baht in economic circulation. Registration will take place during October 2026, with benefits usable from November 2026 until December 15, 2026, before a one-month pause over the New Year period, then resuming from January 16, 2027 to February 28, 2027, a total period of three months, to stimulate the economy in the fourth quarter of this year and the first quarter of 2027. The government will subsidize accommodation at a fixed rate, paying actual costs of no more than 2,000 baht per entitlement, while coupons are worth 1,500 baht per entitlement in major cities and 2,000 baht in secondary cities, used as a co-payment model in which the government pays 50% and the tourist pays 50%, covering restaurants, spas, souvenir shops, massage services and travel packages. In this phase, 1 million entitlements will be offered, and each person may use a maximum of 5 entitlements. As for measures to prevent opportunistic room rate hikes, accommodation operators must submit documents confirming their prices when registering, and the prices must not differ from last year, while tourist police will step in if price increases are reported. So far, about 1,000 operators and tourists have been blacklisted, and the most recent scheme found only 4 cases.
