Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing jointly opened the Thailand–Myanmar Business Forum 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, aiming to revive border economies and drive a new round of economic cooperation. Both sides agreed to accelerate the resolution of regulatory obstacles, reopen the second Thai–Myanmar Friendship Bridge at Mae Sot–Myawaddy, and consider opening additional border crossings. They set a target to increase bilateral trade from the current level of over 7.4 billion US dollars to 12 billion US dollars as soon as possible, through hosting a meeting of the Joint Trade Commission at the commerce minister level. The Myanmar president invited Thai businesses to expand investment, noting that Thailand is currently the fifth-largest investor in Myanmar with 103 investment projects worth 4.6 billion US dollars, and highlighted the Dawei deep-sea port project as the export point closest to Thailand. He stressed that the enforcement of four intellectual property laws since 2024 will help create a win-win business environment for both sides.
