The Thai government is pressing ahead with negotiations on a free trade agreement between Thailand and the European Union. The two sides have now concluded 15 out of 24 chapters, or nearly two-thirds of the entire negotiation. They are currently expediting discussions on key remaining issues such as market access for goods, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, rules of origin, trade in services, investment, and government procurement, aiming to reach a deal as soon as possible. The agreement targets a high-standard trade pact covering trade in goods, services, investment, intellectual property, and sustainable development. It will help reduce trade barriers, increase export opportunities for Thai products—especially agricultural goods, food, automobiles, industrial parts, and electrical appliances—while attracting European investment and enhancing Thailand's competitiveness.
