Foreign investors applied to invest 1.37 trillion baht, or $40.6 billion, in Thailand during the first half of 2026, an 80% increase from the same period a year earlier driven by artificial intelligence and data center projects. The Board of Investment received 1,299 domestic and foreign applications valued at 1.47 trillion baht, with foreign direct investment proposals covering 877 projects. The digital sector accounted for 1.12 trillion baht, more than three-quarters of total applications, underscoring Thailand's growing appeal as a regional hub for AI and cloud infrastructure. Global technology companies including Alphabet's Google, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft have announced major investments to expand their cloud and AI infrastructure in the country, while TikTok System (Thailand) received approval for an 842 billion-baht data-hosting project. Board of Investment Secretary General Narit Therdsteerasukdi said the continued growth reflected investor confidence in Thailand's potential to support future-focused industries, providing encouraging momentum for Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's efforts to strengthen the economy.
