The Chicago School has welcomed its first cohort of students to the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine, Chicago's first new medical school in nearly a century. IllinoisCOM will embed mental–physical health integration into its curriculum, drawing on the university's expertise in psychology and behavioral health, and will enroll 170 students per year, educating approximately 680 osteopathic medical students at any given time when fully operational. The college is a response to a projected national shortage of up to 86,000 physicians by 2036 and an Illinois need for an additional 1,063 primary-care physicians by 2030. Over the next decade, IllinoisCOM is projected to generate nearly $1 billion in economic impact for the region. The college received pre-accreditation from the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation in 2025 and is on track to graduate its first cohort in 2030.
