CD Projekt RED, Poland's largest video game developer, is set to release the remastered version of its blockbuster game The Witcher 3, titled The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, on September 29, ahead of the launch of a new expansion pack in 2027. The announcement was made at Gamescom on Tuesday evening (August 25), along with a gameplay trailer and a teaser clip for the third expansion, Songs of the Past, which has no release date yet but is confirmed for 2027. The remastered version will be a free upgrade for players who previously purchased the original game on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, and will also have a dedicated version for Nintendo Switch 2. Owners of the base game will get immediate free access to both original expansions, which are included in the remastered version from day one. The Witcher 3 originally launched in 2015, winning over 250 Game of the Year awards and selling over 65 million copies. Krzysztof Tkocz, an analyst at Erste Group, expects the remaster's release to positively impact fourth-quarter results and help expand the player base to 70-75 million copies before Songs of the Past launches. He also noted that the free upgrade will strengthen player confidence, contrasting with other game companies that often charge extra.
