Thomson Reuters released its 2026 Future of Professionals report warning that up to $143 billion in client revenue is at risk in the U.S. alone as legal, tax, and accounting firms fail to effectively implement artificial intelligence. The global survey of 1,800 professionals found that while 74% use AI tools weekly, 91% believe their organizations are falling short of what AI can deliver, and one-third are turning to unsanctioned tools, creating invisible risks. The execution gap is also driving talent away, with 24% of professionals considering leaving within two years if they do not see expected AI value, and 78% of corporate clients now view AI-enabled quality improvements as essential, yet only 6% say most providers deliver. Within 12 months, 32% of clients plan to reassess provider relationships, with a third putting more than $1 million in annual work at risk, contributing to the combined $143 billion in U.S. legal and accounting revenue under active reconsideration.
