Yen strength and risk-off sentiment push bond yields up, with 10-year JGB yield rising to 2.820%.
In the Tokyo market on August 3, the dollar-yen moved in the lower 156 range, reflecting a stronger yen and weaker dollar compared to late New York trading the previous day. At one point in the morning, it plunged more than 2 yen from the upper 157 range. The Nikkei average fell back for the first time in three business days, ending trading at 63,754.90, down 0.94% from the previous day, after briefly dropping as much as 2.58%. Government bond futures also fell back, with the yield on newly issued 10-year government bonds rising to 2.820%.
