TotalEnergies SETotalEnergies invests over €100M in a 3-year AI partnership with Mistral to develop frontier AI models for its geosciences and reservoir work.

TotalEnergies and Mistral announced a three-year joint program representing an investment of more than €100 million to develop a new generation of frontier AI models supporting TotalEnergies' geosciences experts in the exploration, characterization and development of oil and gas reservoirs. The partnership will draw on advances in artificial intelligence, particularly agentic AI, to combine close to 10 petaflops of data with nearly a century of knowledge and expertise accumulated by TotalEnergies in geosciences and reservoir engineering. The two companies will establish a joint scientific laboratory combining TotalEnergies' subsurface know-how with Mistral's scientific and technological capabilities. Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies, said exploration and reservoir engineering are among the areas where artificial intelligence can create the greatest value, and that the partnership illustrates the company's commitment to a high-performing European digital ecosystem. Arthur Mensch, Co-founder and CEO of Mistral, said the project demonstrates the ability of Mistral's models to support complex industrial processes and highlights the strength of Europe's industrial ecosystem.
