Amazon.com IncAmazon is a competitor and part owner of Anthropic; Trump's reversal reduces regulatory risk for Anthropic, potentially strengthening a rival, but Amazon also benefits from its ownership stake.

President Donald Trump told Axios on Friday that he no longer considers AI startup Anthropic a national security threat, reversing concerns he held just a week ago. Trump said Anthropic responded very responsibly after being forced to shut down its latest AI models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, under a government directive aimed at restricting foreign access. He noted that Amazon, a competitor and part owner, initially raised alarms about the systems. Trump added that he came to view CEO Dario Amodei as a nice and smart person during the recent G7 Summit in France, but did not rule out using emergency powers under the Defense Production Act if the company fails to comply in the future.
