Trump Sends Saudi Nuclear Deal to Congress, Stresses Israel Recognition Condition

President Donald Trump has sent a draft civilian nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia to Congress for review, stipulating that Riyadh must establish relations with Israel through the Abraham Accords. A U.S. government source said the classified documents were delivered to Congress on Monday, August 24, in accordance with the Atomic Energy Act. The agreement was signed by U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Saudi Arabia's energy minister in Washington in July. However, officials declined to disclose whether the condition was included in the documents. Congress has 90 days to review, and the agreement will take effect without a vote unless both chambers pass a resolution of disapproval. Trump's insistence could complicate the approval process, as the Abraham Accords, endorsed in 2020, have increased the number of Arab countries recognizing Israel.
