US President Donald Trump has called on Canadian businesses that trade with the US to move their operations across the border into the US "immediately," amid an escalating trade war. In a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump said Canada is "one of the countries that takes the most advantage of the US in trade" and stated, "Let all Canadian companies doing business with the US move into the US immediately. If they move, they won't have to pay tariffs." The demand comes after Trump announced new tariffs of 50% on cars, trucks, auto parts, and steel from Canada, effective January 1, 2027, in addition to the 50% tariffs announced earlier this month covering about $20 billion worth of Canadian imports. The Canadian government has announced retaliatory measures on a "dollar-for-dollar" basis.
