The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index edged up to 91.2 in June, a 0.6-point gain from May's downwardly revised 90.6, but missed economist forecasts of around 94. The Present Situation Index fell 3.0 points to 116.4, while the Expectations Index rose 3.0 points to 74.4. A 5½-year high of 22.5% of respondents said jobs are hard to get, and the labor market differential narrowed to 2.4%. Inflation expectations for the year ahead eased, yet 61.5% of those surveyed expect higher interest rates a year from now.
