Uber Technologies IncUber's AI usage surge and cost efficiency improvements signal successful AI adoption and operational gains.

Uber Technologies Inc. reports that its AI usage has surged 9.4 times since February, yet total AI spending has remained relatively flat since April. The company says the cost per 1,000 requests for the same AI model has dropped about 34% from its April peak, and individual AI session costs are 52% lower than their June high. More than 70% of code-change submissions at Uber now come from AI agents, with engineers running over 30,000 agent jobs daily, and the number of employees using AI has more than quadrupled. Uber has also cut expenses by routing simpler tasks to cheaper models, restricting token consumption, improving prompt caching, and exploring open-weight models. This efficiency is notable because Uber had already exceeded its AI budget for 2026, and it signals that AI adoption may become more attractive as companies better manage inference costs.
