UEFA objects and considers legal action to block the deal
FIFA is creating a new entity called FIFA Forward Enterprise to house media and commercial rights for men's and women's World Cup tournaments, with a reported valuation of about $20 billion and an initial plan to raise $4.2 billion from outside investors. Under the proposed structure, investors would not receive cash distributions but would see their stake increase in value, while generated money would be distributed to FIFA's member associations through the FIFA Forward program for global football development projects. FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who faces re-election in 2027 and term limits preventing him from serving after 2031, has been tapped to run the new entity as commissioner with a salary increase to $64 million, a tenfold rise. UEFA has strongly objected, calling the sale of a stake in football's non-profit governing body a line that should never be crossed and is considering legal options to block the deal, with a senior global official reportedly telling Sky News, "We will kill it."
