Universal Music Group N.V.Landmark licensing partnership enables fan-created content using UMG's recordings, generating additional revenue for artists and rightsholders.

Universal Music Group and Hook have announced a landmark licensing partnership that enables fans to create and share content using UMG's official recordings while generating additional revenue for artists and rightsholders. The two-year collaboration, which included learnings from over 30 UMG artist campaigns across labels such as Republic Records, Capitol Records, Mavin, and Virgin Music Group, establishes a framework where every creation is licensed, attributed, and tracked. UMG artists and rightsholders will control which songs are available, which creative experiences fans can use, and where resulting content can be shared. Hook's technology does not generate new tracks but allows fans to personalize and share licensed music across social media, with backing from investors including Khosla Ventures, Point72, Imaginary Ventures, and Waverley Capital.
