The yield on the 10-year US Treasury note surged past 4.7% after three Fed officials, who were in the minority at the latest meeting, came out in support of raising interest rates to curb inflation. As of 9.30 pm Bangkok time, the 10-year yield stood at 4.724% and the 30-year yield at 5.261%. The FOMC voted 9 to 3 to hold rates at 3.50 to 3.75% at its 29 July meeting, while Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack, Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari, and Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan voted for a quarter-point hike amid concerns that inflation has been above the 2% target for more than five years. Hammack and Kashkari said that raising rates now would help avoid more severe tightening later. Investors are watching key employment data next week.
