The trade dispute between the United States and Canada has escalated further, making the prospect of a renewed trade war under the second Trump administration increasingly real. On the 8th, the Trump administration announced an expansion of the 50% tariff list on Canadian goods and an import ban. Canadian Prime Minister Carney also took a tough stance, saying, "The U.S. is trying to dominate us, but we will never let that happen." Senior U.S. officials have singled out Canada and China as countries that have taken retaliatory measures, and the U.S. has already developed a situation with China where each side imposes tariffs exceeding 100% on the other.
