The Conference Board reported that the US Consumer Confidence Index for July came in at 90.8, below the expected 92.4 and down from 92.2 in June. The Present Situation Index dropped to 114.9, its lowest level since February 2021, while the Expectations Index rose to 74.7, beating forecasts. The gap between those saying jobs are "plentiful" and those saying jobs are "hard to get" worsened to 3.1 from 3.8 in June, hitting the lowest since February 2021 and signaling weaker consumer views on the labor market. Average 12-month inflation expectations fell to 5.5, the lowest since February.
