US pharmaceutical giant Bristol-Myers Squibb has announced it will purchase the Nvidia DGX SuperPOD based on Nvidia's next-generation platform, Vera Rubin. It will be the first life sciences company to buy this product. While the specific amount has not been disclosed, the company is proceeding with this deployment building on a smaller, several-generations-old system previously purchased from Nvidia. Pharmaceutical companies are ramping up AI infrastructure investments to rapidly identify drug targets and improve clinical trial success rates. Bristol-Myers Squibb's chief research and development officer, Robert Plenge, noted that the new capabilities could increase the number of drug candidates considered in the early stages of drug discovery by dozens. The company has already reduced manufacturing time for investigational drugs by 20 to 30 percent using AI tools, and expects that figure to reach 50 percent in the coming years.
