The US Treasury Department has announced the removal of Iraqi airline Fly Baghdad and two Boeing 737 aircraft from the sanctions list linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The Office of Foreign Assets Control said the carrier, also known as Iraq Express, has been deleted from the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List. Fly Baghdad was first sanctioned in January 2024 over allegations of supporting the IRGC Quds Force and Iranian proxy militant groups in Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon. Treasury officials stressed that this action does not reflect any change in US policy toward the Iranian government or the Quds Force. The delisting comes after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the US could soon reach a deal with Iran to open shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, an Iranian foreign ministry spokesman disclosed that Iran and Oman have made progress in talks to establish a safe commercial shipping route through the strait, with both sides reaching a mutual understanding on geographic coordinates and working on a joint statement.
