Verizon Communications has signed a more than $1 billion agreement with Google to provide dark-fiber routes connecting data centers, positioning its network for growing AI connectivity demand. The company expects to announce additional agreements with hyperscalers by year-end that could collectively represent multiple billions of dollars in revenue over the next several years. Verizon is also converting some existing central offices into edge data centers to support AI inference closer to end users. The Google deal provides early validation of AI infrastructure as a long-term growth avenue for Verizon.
