Vishay Intertechnology IncRevenue up 17.3%, gross margin improving, backlog up 21%, and Newport fab reaches gross-profit neutrality

Vishay Intertechnology's aggressive capacity expansion is beginning to translate into profit growth, with first-quarter 2026 revenue rising 17.3% year over year to $839 million and gross margin improving to 21%. The company's Newport semiconductor facility achieved gross-profit neutrality during the quarter, while it spent $87 million on its new 12-inch fab in Germany, which accounts for nearly half of the full-year $400–$440 million capital expenditure plan. Management expects stronger order momentum to absorb new capacity, citing a 1.34 book-to-bill ratio and a 21% increase in backlog to $1.6 billion, and guided for second-quarter gross margin of approximately 22%. Vishay reaffirmed its long-term gross margin target of roughly 31%, but cautioned that a demand slowdown could prolong margin pressure from under-absorption costs.
