Alphabet Inc Class CWaymo's TV campaign aims to boost public trust and adoption of its self-driving service, potentially increasing ridership.

Alphabet subsidiary Waymo unveiled a nationwide TV commercial campaign aimed at addressing public doubts about self-driving cars. The ads, set to air Friday on Fox's FIFA World Cup coverage, focus on experience and safety rather than technology, with CMO Suzanne Philion stating the campaign aims to showcase empathy and the human element behind the robotics. Waymo currently provides more than 500,000 trips each week across 11 metropolitan areas and cites peer-reviewed research showing its fleet is involved in 80% fewer injury-causing collisions than human drivers in those same urban areas. The multimedia push, which also includes digital ads and billboards, comes amid intensifying competition from Tesla, Uber, Hyundai, and Amazon's Zoox, as well as ongoing criticism over traffic jams and pedestrian accidents.
