Uber Technologies IncWaymo plans to exit partnership and launch its own app in Austin and Atlanta, increasing competition for Uber.
Waymo is exploring an exit from its robotaxi partnership with Uber, giving notice that it will launch its own service app in Austin and Atlanta at the beginning of 2028. Waymo will continue to offer rides on Uber's platform through May 2028 when the current contract ends, but the move signals increased competition for Uber, which had aimed to become the default aggregator for driverless rides. Morningstar analysts reduced Uber's fair value estimate from $85 per share to $76 following the announcement. Uber currently offers autonomous Waymo rides exclusively in Austin and Atlanta, while Waymo has launched its own app in six cities outside San Francisco and Los Angeles.
