Meta Expected to Unveil Camera-Free Smart Glasses at Connect Conference
Meta Platforms is expected to unveil smart glasses without a camera at Wednesday's Connect conference, a move aimed at addressing privacy concerns and a class action lawsuit in California. According to Reuters, the camera-free glasses will come in two styles, Clubmaster and Burbank, alongside a new version of its Meta Ray-Ban glasses with a camera and a thinner and lighter pair of augmented-reality glasses codenamed Phoenix. Current models carry a built-in high-resolution digital camera for point-of-view photos and videos, activated by a temple button or voice command, with a white LED light on the front signaling an active camera. Despite that light, privacy advocates have criticized the ability to film unsuspecting subjects, and the glasses have been restricted in several UK public spaces. Meta and eyewear maker EssilorLuxottica also face a federal class-action lawsuit in California alleging consumers were misled about privacy protections and that the glasses covertly captured and transmitted private and intimate footage to offshore human contractors for AI training, with cameras often activated without users' knowledge. Meta's Connect 2026 runs Wednesday and Thursday, with a keynote address from CEO Mark Zuckerberg at 4pm PT, 7pm ET.

Omdia: Global AI Glasses Shipments More Than Doubled in 1H26 to Record 4.2 Million
Global AI glasses shipments reached a record 4.2 million units in the first half of 2026, up 127% year-on-year, according to new Omdia data. Meta retained its dominant position, shipping 3.4 million AI glasses to capture an 81.3% market share, while Even Realities climbed from fifth place in 2H25 to second in 1H26 with 102,000 units shipped, a 2.4% share, on demand for its G2 series across North America and Western Europe. While the US remains by far the largest AI glasses market, shipments in Mainland China surged 306% year-on-year in 1H26, though that market remains highly fragmented, with top players Alibaba, INMO, and Xiaomi collectively accounting for just 46.1% of shipments. Omdia Senior Analyst Qiran Ju said growth was driven by Meta's continued market momentum and a wave of new market entrants from China, while Research Director Jason Low said the fragmentation seen in China signals there is no single, one-size-fits-all solution in the AI glasses space. Omdia also warned that intensifying scrutiny of camera-equipped AI glasses will require companies to define exactly what always-on cameras capture, show users how that content is used, and guarantee it never reaches third parties.

Mizuho Keeps Buy Rating and $750 Target on Meta as Muse AI Tops US App Store
Mizuho analyst Lloyd Walmsley reiterated a Buy rating and a $750 price target on Meta Platforms, citing the rapid adoption of the company's Muse AI assistant. Muse has climbed to the No. 1 spot in the U.S. app store, according to the Tuesday analyst note. Walmsley also pointed to Meta's planned Connector Platform and additional AI updates expected at Meta Connect 2026 as potential drivers, with integration into the company's smart glasses offering Muse another distribution channel. On valuation, Meta trades at about 22 times estimated 2027 earnings, compared with roughly 30 times for Alphabet when investor enthusiasm around Gemini was elevated, based on Bloomberg data.
