Witkoff and Kushner Meet Putin to Advance Ukraine Peace Plan

Senior negotiators for U.S. President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, traveled to Moscow on Saturday to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine. The talks lasted about three hours, and Putin said the situation is "not easy," but that the contact between the two sides has been "undoubtedly useful." The two sides agreed to suspend attacks on each other's capitals for three days to allow the U.S. delegation to travel to Kyiv on Sunday, marking their first visit to Ukraine as negotiators. Putin's foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, said the talks were "constructive and extremely frank," covering economic issues and large-scale cooperation projects between Russia and the U.S. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he had spoken with Witkoff and Kushner, and that Ukraine is ready for substantive discussions. Russia has controlled about one-fifth of Ukrainian territory since 2022, and the talks come amid intensified aerial attacks on both sides.
