The World Bank decided at its board meeting on the 23rd to phase out lending to China by 2031. The move takes into account China's development into the world's second-largest economy, and follows calls by former US President Donald Trump during his first administration for a complete halt. The bank also decided to cap total lending from 2026 to 2031 at two billion dollars. US administration officials have reportedly indicated that other international institutions, such as the Asian Development Bank and the International Fund for Agricultural Development, should also end support for China.
