Yamaha Motor will support a research project at the archaeological sites of Copán in Honduras, conducted jointly by Komatsu University, Shizuoka University, and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras. The project aims to identify previously undiscovered cultural and natural sites through LiDAR-based measurement and analysis of surrounding forests and terrain. Using Yamaha Motor's forest digitalization service, an initial aerial laser scan in April 2026 created high-density point cloud data, visualizing forest structure and surface features as small as 50 cm, and identifying numerous landforms with possible signs of human construction. The resulting digital twin helps preserve pre-excavation landscape and environmental conditions for future generations. Yamaha Motor plans to expand this technology to cultural and natural heritage site investigation and preservation globally.
