The yen rose against the dollar, euro, and British pound in the New York foreign exchange market. Comments by Finance Minister and Financial Services Minister Satsuki Katayama, indicating a push for pension funds including the Government Pension Investment Fund to expand investment in domestic financial assets, were seen as a factor. In late trading, the yen was up 0.44% against the dollar at 161.67 yen, briefly touching 161.26 yen. It also gained about 0.5% against the euro and the pound, lifting the yen from near 40-year lows seen before the remarks. The market is also keeping a close eye on the Middle East situation, with US President Trump emphasizing that a ceasefire with Iran is over, while diplomatic efforts to ease tensions, such as a Qatari delegation's visit to Iran, were also reported. The dollar index against major currencies ended 0.03% higher at 100.94, the euro fell 0.11% to 1.1416 dollars, and the British pound slipped 0.06% to 1.3397 dollars.
