Summary · why it matters

Zoetis Inc. announced that Simparica Trio has received Emergency Use Authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of infestations caused by New World screwworm larvae in dogs and puppies. The authorization expands the solutions available to veterinarians to help address New World screwworm and gives added confidence for pet owners whose dogs and puppies are already receiving Simparica Trio. Simparica Trio was the first product FDA-approved to provide all-in-one protection for dogs against heartworm disease, ticks and fleas, roundworms, hookworms, and prevents flea tapeworm infections by killing fleas in a single monthly chewable. Zoetis also offers Dectomax-CA1 Injectable, the only nonprescription conditionally approved parasite control product labeled for prevention and treatment of infestations caused by New World screwworm larvae in cattle and for prevention of reinfestation for 21 days. The FDA has issued an Emergency Use Authorization for the use of the approved or conditionally approved products Dectomax and Dectomax-CA1 for the prevention and treatment of infestations caused by Cochliomyia hominivorax larvae in dairy cattle, swine, sheep except for lactating sheep, deer, and horses 1 year old and older.
