NAR Shares First-Half Net Profit Drops 60%, Traditional Main Business Margins Slide, Bets on Lithium-Ion Battery Anodes for a Turnaround

NAR Shares has released its 2026 half-year report, with net profit attributable to the parent company at 45.49 million yuan, down 60.4% year-on-year. The company noted that in the first half of 2025 it booked investment income of over 33 million yuan from selling equity in an associate, and the absence of such income in 2026 was the most direct reason for the sharp profit decline. In addition, the appreciation of the yuan against the US dollar led to exchange losses, and rising upstream raw material prices pushed up costs. Gross margins in the company's traditional main businesses of digital printing materials and automotive functional films both fell, with the digital printing materials gross margin at 14.84%, down 1.02 percentage points year-on-year, and the automotive functional films gross margin down 2.14 percentage points year-on-year. To seek new growth drivers, the company invested in Shanghai LithPho Technology and established a controlled joint venture, Jiangxi NAR Lithium Battery Materials, focusing on the research, development, production and sales of porous carbon, a precursor for silicon-carbon anode materials. It is currently in trial production, with product samples being tested and validated by multiple customers. The company aims for new energy and other materials segments to account for over 20% of sales revenue by 2028.

Naer Technology disclosed its earnings forecast, expecting net profit attributable to the parent for the first half of 2026 to be between 38 million yuan and 51 million yuan, a year-on-year decline of 55.55% to 66.88%. Deducted non-recurring net profit is expected to be between 30 million yuan and 40 million yuan, a year-on-year decline of 46.09% to 59.57%. The company stated that the decline in performance was mainly due to a non-recurring investment gain of over 33 million yuan from the sale of equity in an associate in the same period last year, exchange losses caused by the appreciation of the yuan against the US dollar, and rising upstream raw material prices pushing up costs.
