Hyundai Steel Company manufactures and sells steel and other industrial metal products, operating in Korea, the rest of Asia, the United States, and Europe together with its subsidiaries. Its product range includes hot and cold rolled steel sheets, steel and heavy plates, ERW and steel pipes, reinforcing bars, special steel bars, heavy machinery, wire rods, automotive parts, tailor welded blanks, hydroforming and hot stamping products, as well as H-sections, angles, I beams, steel sheet piles, and railway rails. The company serves the automobile, shipbuilding, and construction industries. Formerly known as INI Steel Company, it changed its name to Hyundai Steel Company in March 2006; it was founded in 1953 and is headquartered in Incheon, South Korea.

Hyundai-Posco breaks ground on $5.8B Louisiana steel plant

Hyundai-Posco Louisiana Steel, a joint venture between Hyundai Steel and Posco Group, has begun construction of a $5.8 billion fully integrated steel plant in Louisiana, with production slated to start in the first quarter of 2029. The venture will fund half of the project, with Posco contributing 20% and Hyundai and Kia each 15%. Described as the first-of-its-kind electric arc furnace plant, it will supply low-carbon steel sheets to North American automakers, particularly Hyundai Motor Group, and is expected to employ over 1,300 people directly. The facility aims to cut CO2 emissions by 70% compared to conventional blast furnaces and will support South Korea's $350 billion US investment commitment under the 2025 trade deal.

Hyundai Steel Q2 Net Profit Plunges 67.6% on Construction Slump

Hyundai Steel, South Korea's second-largest steelmaker, reported a 67.6% drop in second-quarter 2026 net profit to 12.1 billion won from 37.4 billion won a year earlier, hit by a prolonged downturn in the construction industry. Operating profit fell 43.3% to 57.7 billion won, while sales rose 2.7% to 6.1 trillion won. For the first half, the company posted a net loss of 27.2 billion won, widening from 17 billion won a year ago. Hyundai Steel said it will seek opportunities to supply steel products for key national projects such as energy and AI data center projects to improve profitability.
