Vietnam invites Qualcomm and Samsung to expand AI and chip investment, aiming to become regional tech hub

Vietnam's leaders have called on Qualcomm and Samsung Electronics to expand their investments in AI, semiconductors, and R&D in the country, aiming to elevate it into a regional innovation hub. During a meeting in Hanoi, To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party and President, discussed with Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, requesting increased investment in various fields, from AI, semiconductors, robotics, 5G and 6G technology, data centers, to future connectivity technologies. Amon stated that Qualcomm wants to elevate its operations in Vietnam to become the company's third-largest AI R&D center globally. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung met with Roh Tae-moon, CEO of Samsung, asking the company to remain a key partner in advancing technology and integrating into global value chains. Since Samsung began producing mobile phones in Vietnam 17 years ago, the cumulative export value of its mobile phone manufacturing unit in the country reached $500 billion by the end of June 2026, with cumulative investment of approximately $24 billion. Samsung plans to further invest and train personnel, while opening more opportunities for local companies to join the global supply chain.
