Zelestra and EnBW sign tolling deal for 300MW share of Italian battery project
Zelestra and EnBW have entered into a long-term tolling agreement for a 300-megawatt share of a planned battery energy storage project in Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The project will have an approximate total capacity of 500 megawatts and deliver four-hour storage, providing more than 1.2 gigawatt-hours of flexibility for Italy's power grid. Under the deal, Zelestra will construct the battery storage system and EnBW will offtake the 300-megawatt portion, with construction starting in 2027 and full operations expected in 2028. Zelestra says its 2-gigawatt-hour battery storage project in Emilia-Romagna is now fully secured, and the site is located in an area with high industrial electricity consumption and rising renewable generation.
Venture Global signs new LNG supply deal with EnBW, expands Atlantic SEE agreement
Venture Global has executed new binding agreements with EnBW for the supply of about 0.82 million tonnes per annum of US liquefied natural gas, starting in 2026 for around five years. These agreements are in addition to the companies' existing long-term sales and purchase agreements for 2 million tonnes per annum over 20 years. Separately, Venture Global and ATLANTIC – SEE LNG TRADE S.A. have expanded their existing sales and purchase agreement, doubling the contracted volume from a minimum of 0.5 million tonnes per annum to 1.0 million tonnes per annum under a 20-year deal expected to start in 2030.
EnBW begins construction of 400MW battery storage in Germany
EnBW has started building a 400MW battery energy storage system with 800MWh of energy capacity at Philippsburg Energy Park in Germany, one of the country's largest such projects. The facility will store electricity from wind and solar sources, supplying energy for about 100,000 households daily, and is being developed at a site that previously housed two nuclear power units now undergoing dismantlement. The project is financed without subsidies, relying on revenue from electricity sales and grid services, with a pilot plant initially testing two distinct battery systems before additional systems are introduced next year and the full facility becomes operational by the end of 2027. EnBW currently operates 20 battery storage systems totaling over 100MWh across Germany and is developing additional storage facilities with a combined capacity of 1,800MWh.
Venture Global Signs New LNG Supply Deals With Germany's EnBW
Venture Global has signed new binding LNG supply agreements with Germany-based EnBW for approximately 0.82 million tons per annum of U.S. LNG over a five-year period beginning in 2026. The deal expands on the companies' existing long-term sales and purchase agreements covering 2 MTPA for 20 years, further deepening their strategic relationship and enhancing Venture Global's presence in the European energy market. The agreements improve revenue visibility and cash-flow generation by securing additional contracted volumes, while showcasing the versatility of the company's marketing platform across short, medium, and long-term supply options. The expanded partnership reinforces Venture Global's role as a key LNG supplier supporting European energy security and strengthens its position as a leading U.S. LNG exporter.
Venture Global Shares Drop 13.3% After U.S.-Iran Strait of Hormuz Deal
Venture Global shares fell 13.3% this week after the U.S. and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding to extend a ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for 20% of global LNG exports. The stock had previously surged on expectations that U.S. producers would fill the supply gap caused by the strait's closure, but the reopening deal triggered a sell-off. Despite the decline, Qatar, the world's second-largest LNG exporter, still has about 17% of its 112 billion cubic meters of annual capacity impaired from Iranian attacks, a shortfall that could take years to restore and may continue to benefit U.S. exporters. Venture Global also announced new long-term agreements, including a 20-year extension of a sales and purchase agreement with Greece's SEE LNG TRADE from 2030 and a five-year deal with Germany's EnBW starting in 2026. Some analysts view the dip as a potential buying opportunity given the ongoing geopolitical risks and the company's growing contract portfolio.
EnBW secures additional US LNG volumes from Venture Global
German energy company EnBW has secured additional US liquefied natural gas volumes from Venture Global under new binding agreements for around 820,000 tonnes per annum. The new arrangements, which are for nearly five years, are scheduled to begin in 2026. These new contracts add to previous long-term agreements under which EnBW purchases two million tonnes per annum of LNG from Venture Global over a duration of 20 years. Venture Global CEO Mike Sabel said the new mid-term agreements build on the strong, long-standing relationship and reflect the company's commitment to meeting customers' evolving energy needs.
