Everspin Nears Profitability Turning Point as Legal Costs Weigh on Record Revenue
Everspin Technologies, a niche maker of magnetoresistive random access memory chips with a market cap of $400 million, is nearing a profitability turning point despite a net loss of $3.6 million, or $0.15 per share, in its latest quarter. The loss came even as revenue hit a record $18.7 million, up 42% year over year, dragged down by $4 million in legal fees tied to a patent infringement challenge brought by Avalanche Technology before the U.S. International Trade Commission. Those costs pushed operating expenses to $14.5 million, 66% more than the same quarter a year ago, and the company expects a similar hit in fiscal Q3, guiding to revenue of $19.5 million to $20.5 million and a net loss of $0.05 to $0.10 per share. The ITC dispute, filed Jan. 28, 2026, could drag into the second quarter of 2027, since such cases typically settle 14 to 16 months from filing. Offsetting that pressure, Everspin announced a $40 million multiyear contract from a U.S. defense program and a strategic partnership with Teledyne to accelerate adoption of its MRAM technology in aerospace and defense systems, supporting management's goal of $100 million in revenue by fiscal 2029, up from $55 million at the end of last fiscal year, a 15% compound annual growth rate.
