AstraZeneca Cancer Drug Targets Up to $5 Billion in Sales

AstraZeneca's investigational cancer drug sonesitatug vedotin could achieve peak annual sales between $3 billion and $5 billion after a late-stage trial met its primary overall-survival endpoint in advanced gastric cancer. The global Phase III study showed a clinically meaningful improvement in overall survival versus standard chemotherapy for patients receiving third-line or later treatment, and also met a key secondary overall-survival endpoint in the second-line or later setting. However, the drug did not reach statistical significance on its other primary endpoint of progression-free survival, though an improving trend was reported. The treatment was well tolerated with no new safety concerns. Sonesitatug vedotin is being developed by KYM Biosciences, a joint venture between Keymed Biosciences and Lepu Biopharma, in collaboration with AstraZeneca.
