Lawyer.com shares surge on expectations for AI product LegalBrain

Shares of Lawyer.com, the company behind the e-contract service CloudSign, rose nearly 70% in about a week after its earnings announcement on August 12. The company reported first-quarter revenue for the fiscal year ending March 2027 of 4.84 billion yen, up 27.3% year on year, and operating profit of 698 million yen, up 36.8%, while company-wide annual recurring revenue expanded to 16.32 billion yen. The market's focus is on LegalBrain, a legal-work-specific AI agent released in May 2025. CEO Taichiro Motoe revealed that while CloudSign took four years and four months to reach 1 billion yen in annual recurring revenue, LegalBrain is growing at a pace far exceeding that. The company sees LegalBrain as a pioneering domestic AI-native product that redesigns legal work around AI from the ground up, and believes it reached product-market fit with an upgrade on June 29, 2026. Users have said it allows them to delay hiring associate lawyers, and the company is seen as having even greater room to grow by capturing the market for personnel cost budgets.
